Cultural Arts Treasures

The Atlantic County Teen Arts

The Atlantic County Teen Arts is part of a statewide multidisciplinary program in the fine and performing arts. Serving students and teachers in both public and private schools since 1969, the program encompasses activities in dance, theater, vocal music, instrumental music, film and video, photography, creative writing and the visual arts. The Atlantic County program is coordinated by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.

A Teen Arts Festival is held annually in early May on the campus of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Pomona. Any teen from throughout Atlantic County is invited to display their talent, meet with professionals in the field for critique and attend hands-on workshops or master classes. -- Local artists, teachers, school administrators and parents of teens active in the fine and performing arts are invited to assist in providing a wide range of programs and opportunities for the Atlantic County Teen Arts Program. International House Of Blues

 House of Blues is home to live music and southern-inspired cuisine in an environment celebrating the African American cultural contributions of blues music and folk art. In 1992, the company converted a historical house in Cambridge, Massachusetts into the original House of Blues®. The original House of Blues opened its door on Thanksgiving Day, 1992. The mission of the House of Blues is to .celebrate the diversity and brotherhood of world culture and to promote racial and spiritual harmony through love, peace, truth, righteousness and non-violence. House of Blues features:


Southern Cuisine
The House of Blues chefs develop artistic adaptations of traditional southern favorites such as Creole Jambalaya and BBQ Baby back Ribs while creating new favorites like Pan Seared Voodoo shrimp and Seared Ahi Tuna Salad.

 

Gospel Brunch
The award winning House of Blues (HOB) Sunday Gospel Brunch is a one-of-a-kind celebration that nourishes the body and soul. The popular Gospel Brunch buffet features inspiring live gospel performances from local and regional artists to acclaimed gospel musicians, in addition to delicious all-you-can-eat southern style buffet that features breakfast favorites plus a host of southern specialties.


The Visual Blues
The HOB walls feature American folk art affectionately referred to as the visual blues. With over a thousand original pieces of folk art, HOB houses one of the largest publicly displayed folk art collections in America.


Philanthropy
Through support of the International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF), over 50,000 students and teachers experience the Blues SchoolHouse program at HOB music halls annually. This program explores the history, music and cultural impact of the blues and related folk art through live music, narration and a guided tour of the HOB folk art collection. The program highlights African American cultural contributions and emphasizes the importance of personal expression. The IHOBF is dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and creative expression through music and art (

Atlantic City Arts Center

The Atlantic City Arts Center features three exhibition galleries that change monthly and bi-monthly featuring artwork by diverse and contemporary artists and artisans of national, regional and local renown. The Art Center presents a wide variety of activities in conjunction with exhibits including concerts, gallery talks, artist demonstrations and literary readings.  The Center is located on Garden Pier overlooking the famous Atlantic City Beach and Boardwalk, at New Jersey Avenue and the Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401.

Atlantic Cape Community College

In addition to its diverse program offerings throughout the year, the Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) hosts an annual Black History Month celebration in February presenting a variety of events, including theatrical performances, photo and art exhibits. Chicken Bone Beach - Annual Jazz Concert Series



L

Somers Point Jazz Society


The Somers Point Jazz Society was formed to promote and foster the performance and appreciation of the unique American art form jazz in Somers Point through the creation of an annual jazz festival to be held in and around Somers Point. The society also produces a year-round calendar of jazz performances by both local and established musicians, as well as provides educational opportunities for both young and old about the art form. Noyes Museum of Art


The Noyes Museum of Art, the only fine arts museum in southern New Jersey, is filled with treasures of American art, especially folk art and crafts. Ventnor City Cultural Art Center

The Ventnor City Cultural Art Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing art and dance classes for Ventnor and the surrounding communities. Visual Arts classes include Watercolor Painting, Acrylic Painting, Oil Painting and Wax Sculpture. Dance and Movement classes include Yoga, Tai Chi, Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz and Tap.

Annual Kentucky Avenue Festival

Each year Atlantic City hosts the "Kentucky Avenue Renaissance Festival" in July. This festival celebrates the black entertainment heritage of Atlantic City, paying homage to the African American entertainers and former venues (such as Club Harlem) that made the city a magnet for famous stars such as Ray Charles, Sammy Davis, Jr., Pearl Bailey, and James Brown in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's.  For information on the next Kentucky Festival contact the Atlantic City office of Cultural Affairs at (609) 343-6326.

Atlantic City Jazz Foundation

The Atlantic City Jazz Foundation's mission is to present, promote and perpetuate awareness, enjoyment and appreciation of Jazz music -- with a particular focus on "Bringing Back The Jazz" to mid-town Atlantic City.  The Foundation hosts special events which feature a wide range of artists, from emerging student ensembles (such as David Treut, Cold Fusion, Phrenzie) to nationally and internationally acclaimed standard bearers (such as Ralph Peterson, Ken Navarro, Alfonzo Blackwell and Roy Ayers).
